My WHOLE account has been "restricted" with ALL the funds in it seized. More than enough money to cover several of the largest charges acccepted... Starting the third day now & still not even a response to countless emails & phone calls.. NO NOTICE & NO EXPLANATION AT ALL !!! My daughters account, that I sent a small amount of money to the day before, has also been seized.. (possibly to further hold my funds???) Also without any notice.

Remember, Paypal makes money on the float -- that's what they've always told us. So the more funds they freeze, and the longer they freeze them, the more money they make on the float.

Hi,
Under the terms of use we can restrict an account to validate the integrity of the funds. Currently, the system allows for restricting an account and engineering is working to push on a per transaction basis to reduce the frustration level.

Is there any restriction for how long can PayPal restrct the whole account? Unlimit? Why only paypal will restrict the whole account among these payment services?

In other words, PayPal can do it, so they do it. In the meantime, they can collect interest on the frozen funds. How convenient.

Likewise, I have been a victim of a silly hacker's cute antics = sending me a paypal payment with a stolen credit card. It is true that Paypal has responded with the same accusatory actions on my account. At this point it is comical, however we (our company and legal counsel) believe that they have overstated their position to the point of possibly accusing ME of a crime or defaming my name. These types of policies need to be worked out in a growing enterprise, we understand that and are not quick to file suit, however Paypal's growth spurt is continuing to absorb their focus on quality customer service. We feel that sooner or later a class action suit will follow, forcing Paypal to follow guidelines set by banking institutions and good ethics.

macandjan:
"Why are restricted accounts still for the full amount of the account? This was supposed to be changed a long time ago ..."
A reasonable conclusion would be that PayPal/X.com lacks employees sufficiently skilled to implement software that complies with their own terms of service confining "restrictions" to single transactions and *not* entire accounts.
Other online payment services apparently have employees with the needed expertise.

Yes "PAYPAL" can restrict your account, they
do this lightening fast. My account
has been restricted since 9-22-00.
I am highly frustrated with PayPal.
I will let as many people know about this
as possible.. I have stopped using and
have stopped advertising this Company
"PAYPAL". Until I receive a proper
explaination, which I have not received
yet. Many emails have been sent, many
phone calls have been made. What a waste
of my time so far.. I will continue
to post everywhere possible. I have
plenty of time.. We the customers
have made paypal possible we can take
them down by means of negative publicity..
Dennis..... Still waiting.......
This restriction can happen to you at
any time (paypal users). Then you can
wait until PayPal gets around to you.
So far its been 2 weeks I can not send or
receive funds..................
