I wasn't too surprised about PayPlace closing down, at least they did it with more style than PayMe did. I think you'll see one of two things happen with the remaining 'free' payment services.
1. Charge fees and strive to make profit.
or
2. Close the doors.

Try and create an account, or log on with an existing account. You'll get a dialog box saying they are down for maintenance... that dialog has been the only activity for over a month. When its down for maintenance for a month it isn't maintenance. PayMe is kaput for now, they might be back but a month of limbo isn't a good sign.

I thought PayPlace's closing annoucement was rather weird. More or less, this was an experiment and we were doing so great that we're closing.
