Hi. I have been using Vendio to create and shepherd my auctions for years. Now I have a new whizbang HP computer with 64-bit Windows 7, and suddenly I'm having all kinds of trouble. I just had the program crash six times while trying to put up an auction for vintage postcards. Is there a new version that will work with Windows 7, or what do I need to do???? Help!
Marshall

Hello,

Sales Manager Pro was last built for the Windows XP OS, though it should run on newer versions of Windows as well.

Right click the icon for Sales Manager Pro, then click 'properties' - from here go to the 'compatibility' tab and set the program to run in Windows XP SP2 (not 3) mode.
At the bottom of that tab check the box to run it in administrator mode, then save the change and try running the program again.

Regards,
Chris

Hi Chris,
Thanks for the reply. I had seen other answers that described this fix, and I've discovered that a right-click also gets you access to a compatibility check. But nothing seems to work, and I have just spent about two hours putting up a batch of five ads. Kept crashing. Kept losing things. This is not acceptable, and I'm wondering whether to quit Vendio after all these years (maybe eight years?) Windows 7 obviously is the big new OS and if Vendio doesn't address its problem, you may be looking at the end of the road.
Regards,
Marshall

Hello Marshall,

We'll need to know what you have done already and what mode you have it in currently in order to assist further.

When Windows 7 first came out you could run the SMPRO program in Windows 98 compatibility mode perfectly - though some Windows updates that have happened since then have made it where Win XP SP2 mode (and with the box checked to run as an admin) has become the most stable of the available options.

If you already tried both 98 and XP SP2 mode, please let us know what is happening in XP SP2 mode when Windows is terminating it thinking it has stopped responding (or if SMPRO itself is actually crashing, there should be a SMPRO message in addition to the one from Windows just notifying you that it terminated the program.)

Depending on the version of Windows 7 you have, you may be able to use Microsoft's "XP Mode" application. This is only available on Windows Professional, not the basic Home versions. Let us know if your running Windows 7 Professional (or any of the upgraded versions above Home) and we'll send you some more information on how to set that up.
Virtual PC works with the home edition and I have ran SMPRO in Virtual PC without any issues on a Windows 7 computer, though setting up Virtual PC with Windows XP would require access to a Windows XP install disc.

Regards,
Chris

Hi again Chris. I have tried once again to create an auction and had the program crash when I tried to save the auction. I am running as administrator in XP SP2 mode (and have tried the other possibilities without success). I am using Windows 7 Home Premium on an x64-based PC. The whole SMPro thing is now very fragile and very frustrating. Marshall
