I'm in the process of moving over all of my products from Infopia. I need to do this with CSV files so I don't have to spend 2 years doing all 15,000 items one by one.
I have downloaded the csv spreadsheet and then I have copied data from my Infopia spreadsheets and then pasted in this data under the appropriate column headers on the Vendio csv file.
When I go to import the file, I get this error:
Error :The uploaded file doesn't seem to use a valid Vendio CSV format. Please make sure that your CSV file matches the Vendio spreadsheet template.
I have checked everything with my eyes and I can't see anything wrong with my csv file and why it doesn't match. I DID, however, notice that in the spreadsheet I downloaded from the link provided on Vendio, in one of the column headers it had "Product Identifer" and I uploaded as it was and I got that error...then I fixed the spelling on it to "Product Identifier" and I tried uploading again...still same error though!
I am also confused as to what to put in the "Vendio Store Categories" as I have created main categories with subcategories under them...(i.e. Main Category "NFL", then subcategory "Pittsburgh Steelers"...so what do I need to put in this field on the spreadsheet/csv file to get the items into the correct store category?
I am pretty proficient in csv/spreadsheets...it's just that every system needs data entered a different way and I just can't find enough guidance on CSV files in any help sections.
I decided to manually enter a product in the hopes that I could export it and then use the CSV file from the export as my model...but I am unable to find an export option anywhere.

Hello,
The error message your referring to usually comes up when you use a program other than Excel to edit the CSV file, which unfortunately does cause an error during the import process when verifying the format is correct.
Are you by chance using a program called CALC instead of Excel to edit your files?
For your Vendio store categories, just enter the child category name - not the whole path when you have subcategories.
Unfortunately there isn't a CSV export available at this time.
Regards,
Chris

Yes...I am using OpenOffice "scalc" but as far as I know it does everything the same as Excel and I can even save everything in xls if need be.
I have been saving it as .csv though.
So what can I do to fix the problem since I use OpenOffice? Is there some workaround/trick to it?

Hello,
Unfortunately, while it is possible to save in .csv format, it is still a different format than the .csv file that is created when saving with Excel. Could you please try saving the file in Excel and see if you have the same problem?
1. When first open the csv file with CALC, there is a screen to select import option. Look for the "Separator Options". You should see "Text delimiter".
2. By default the Text delimiter is using ". But you need to use blank by entering SPACE. This will prevent CALC to put "" as text delimiter for text.

Thank you Nathan...it does actually work with MS Excel. I was trying to avoid having to purchase MS Office for $280 as I was very comfortable & pleased with OpenOffice which is 100% free. Anyhow, Excel does work so I guess I will have to fork over the $$ to Microsoft after my 14 day free trial expires.
Jason,
I have tried the method you described but it still does not work.
