Hello Fellow AW Users:

The following is just a heads-up in case you receive a similar email because you are an AW User.

My visit to this company's website to view their demo was not pleasant - caused a system lock on the browser window and extreme hard drive activity as if it were performing direct access to my hard drive information. All other aspects of my computer system were not locked and performed just fine, including other browser windows that were open. I had to disconnect and power down to break the link to this web site.

I post this for information purposes only - I have verified with AW that AW has NOT released any of our personal information to this company. NetJumper has presented a sales pitch to AuctionWatch for "double Opt-in" services in regards to a simple bookmark link that is managed by NetJumper and placed on customer's computers.

Where I see no added value in this above the Bookmark link already on our store, others may see a need for it.

AW has not specifically "authorized" NetJumper to contact AW users regarding any test audience. NetJumper has taken their own initiative with the email below to recruit testers.

Here is a statement I received from AuctionWatch Customer Service:

"We merely instructed them (NetJumper) that it would be beneficial to their sales pitch if they could demonstrate the value of their product to us."

As you can see - AW has left it to NetJumper to gather the necessary data and metrics to make their sales pitch stronger. In turn, NetJumper has put a targeted call out to AW users on their own.

I suggest using caution if you visit the demo - I was not impressed and as a computer technician, I was shocked that my optimized system was locked by the NetJumper website. But your experience may differ and all may be okay. I don't know.

I have exchanged email regarding my experience at NetJumper with Mr. Gil Borman who assures me of the following:

"We are totally on the “up and up.” Yours is the first report I have ever gotten of someone’s machine locking at our site, which has been up for a year and company has been in existence since 1996.

Our software allows mass bookmarking- a folder of any number of links is placed, on double opt in basis using a signed Active-x control. If you can do that with a java script, I will immediately liquidate my company."

=============

I post this as an AW Community Public Service.

Due to the length of this message, I will post the actual NetJumper Email in another posting.

NETJUMPER UNSOLICITED EMAIL:
==========================

Dear Greg,

NetJumper has created a new software product that enables sellers websites to place a list of their auctions and store items in user bookmarks with one click. I have spoken to Auction watch about incorporating my software into their service, they have asked me to prove the value of my product by conducting a trial with a few AW sellers.

Our product has had over 120,000 to date uses without any complaints. The product is quite stable; you are not doing a beta test only helping to prove an existing product can work well in the AW setting. You will be allowed to use the product for the duration of the trial at no charge and be offered a ridiculously low license fee for the product in the event you still wish to use the product after the trial is over (and if AW decides to not to offer it to you free).

Our software is easy to use and easy to put up on your site. We will do 95% of the work of putting it up for you.

Please contact me if this is of interest to you.

Sincerely

Gilbert Borman

PERSONAL COMMENT: I just see a lot of "red flags' in that email message and in retrospect I should not have visited the site in the first place.
