I am new to the on-line auction world with only a few transactions under my belt. Two weeks ago, I won an auction on Yahoo and sent $110 via U.S. Postal money order to the seller. He acknowledged receipt of the funds and said he would ship the next day. It never arrived and I just learned that his email address is no longer valid. Yahoo offers no protection for buyers, I've now been told. Can anyone offer advice as what I can do to to resolve this very bad experience?

That's why online auction will not take over the world. Too bad we have 1 or 2 crummy sellers (& bidders I assume) to really just blow this whole picture for us all. File for a fraud claim against him. Next time buy from someone with good feedback, it doesn't guarantee you will be happy but you can be sure if his is honest he will try his best to make the transaction go through.

Try his email address again - it may have been a server problem. Also, check with Yahoo again to see if he changed his email address. If you sent the MO to his home, you may be able to look up his phone number and give him a call.
The package may have been lost. A friend of mine that is a seller just had the PO lose a package (insured, thankfully) and I just had a package the PO lost that I had sent almost a month ago by Priority Mail (insured for $280.) and I am in the process of having it investigated and will file a claim next week (when the 30 days is up) I have been selling for two years and never had the PO lose a package before- my friend had been selling for a year and never had a lost package until recently. Seems like the PO is losing more packages than usual.

When I order online I make sure I don't spend to much money, it is best to keep the dollar amount low. This way if something unfortunate happens like that you won't really feel the crunch of losing the money. I just recently spent the most I have ever spent and it was only 23.00. But, that is still a lot to me, but if I lose it, then at least it won't feel like I lost $50 or a $100. Just because you have a good seller with lots of feedback doesn't mean you won't have problems losing your money. Also, I am a seller and I have 3 or 4 people who have sent me money and I have not received it and I thought maybe they really hadn't sent the money but then found out that my W2's had been sent a long time ago and I have yet to get that either. I don't seem to trust the Post Office right now.
