im just curious but why is it that some auction sites get more views which lead to more reviews here than others? what i mean is that some auction sites get mentioned on here once that they are brand new and that we should look and not another word is spoken about them. yet others are spoken of once that they are new and people say that its the best thing theyve seen.

Not all sites are created equal. Some sites alienate potential bidders and sellers before they are even signed up- other sites are so easy to navigate, easy to sign up, and bug free - those are the sites people rave about.

That's what I have found anyway.

I think it's because we have all spent quite a bit of time (at least in my case) going to the auction sites and checking them out. First thing I did when I heard about the YaWho fees. Some sites were not pleasant to my eyes and for me that is an important aspect. However, in this case I have tried to overlook that and have signed up for a bunch of different ones. I have looked through what is listed for sale. I have tried to list an auction to see if this is something I can work with. I list around children and a life so I have to have easy access. I need to be able to list several auctions quickly before I am needed elsewhere. I have contacted each site to see what customer service is like. Some sites keep getting discussed because as we weed through and share our experiences sellers are finding things they can work with on certain sites and some of the others just don't cut it.

i guess the biggest thing i see is that a lot of people are upset with sites like ebay. so they go and try new things, and then they find a site that they love. well, when i go see the site, it looks like ebay. so theyve left ebay for another ebay. to me it doesnt make much sense.

Looking like eBay is not where the trouble lies. Acting like eBay is the problem. eBay has a very nice page layout, very easy to use for new bidders and pleasant to the eye. However, the policies behind eBay and it's greed is where the trouble lies.

People like the ebay "look" (at least their old look) It's the policies, fees, vero, etc. that people don't like. I actually think ebay's listing form is one of the easiest and I can list many more items on eGREED than I can list in the same amount of time on Yahoo. If it weren't for the reserve fee on eGREED (and some of their policies) - I would still be listing there and paying them my $1,000.+ per month in fees.

I went to a new site last night. Something was blinking and flashing at me on the screen on the main menu. Irritating. I hit the back button quickly and was out of there, never to return.

well as you probably know i like lowestbids. to me its different than ebay in every aspect. doesnt even remind me of ebay. yet others have their problems with it which is expected since they are still new. with regards to that and trying not to sound harsh or anything like that is it because the layout of the site isnt like ebay? do people see it as too new and therefore a new system to have to learn whereas another site that feels like ebay has the same interface as far as listing items? i guess im just confused as to the whole thing. it seems to me that people are wanting to try different things, yet usually end up sticking with something that reminds them of past experiences.

mrjoker:

You are wrong- at least in my case. I tried amazon.com and liked it- especially where I never had to worry about my auction policies because amazon remembered everything for me. The only problem I had was lack of sales (at least for my items) Yahoo is different from eGREED some things I liked better (setting end time for my auction, bidding on feature, being able to feature an item mid auction, etc.) and some things I did not like at all (having to select category before getting to the listing form, not able to change categories without relisting the entire thing, could not host my own pics if I wanted a thumbnail and pic icon, etc.)

Some sites have so much clutter (auctionaddict.com) and so much stuff on their main page it's an eyesore and I won't go past that. Other sites require Javascript- and I won't keep it active. I like the ebay software - I used it for three years- they worked most of the bugs out, it's easy to use, and people are familiar with it. Not all bidders are willing to learn a new site just to bid on one item once in awhile.

bottom line is that I will use a site that is easy to use and where I can sell my items.

I wonder why the joker is pushing lowestbids so hard. I wish you well in your pursuits. However, I won't be buying from there as the site makes my head hurt and the lack of concern from it's supposedly very concerned CEO did it for me. As I know a lot more people feel that way it could be quite a lonely place to sell.

I wondered the same thing too.

Some of us do not have high speed connections yet and some of us have small monitors- some sites' banner ads are so large (file size) and wide that it takes forever for them to load and they are much too big when they do.

I don't have room on my C drive to download any more programs (bid bar) and most programs want to be installed under 'program files' on the C Drive - and I'm not going to do that just to testdrive a site I may not use.

You know, there is a difference between discussing an alternative site and actively promoting one. lowestbids.com has been promoted to the point that I'm afraid I can no longer consider it. Sorry, mrjoker, but you've beat the site into the ground for me.

Is getting excited about one that works for you actively promoting it? I don't mean to offend. It's been a long week and to have something actually work is amazing!!!!!

pegasus:My system crashed completely a few months ago due to unstability caused by YaWho downloads. And I trusted them. I lost everything. And I do not intended to put my system in danger over a site I am pretty sure I don't with to do business with. Thanks for the support.

it was never my intention to promote the site or in any way cause people not to go there. if thats what it came across as i apologize. i see a lot of other people discuss/promote other sites with great joy and i wanted to do the same thing with a site that i enjoy. dont worry though because i wont post about it again.

I intend to try lowestbids as soon as their site is operational without a download. I seriously doubt that any bidder will download it just to bid on one item they want.

TO all in this thread.

I would like to thank you for letting us know what you would like to see changed on our site. I understand the BidBar is a new concept. I also understand that some like the ease of use of a site.

Unlike other large auction sites, it is not our intention to force feed anything on the public. To this end we agree in giving users a choice. We still feel our site with the BidBar is a way for sellers who use auction sites for a living to buy and sell their items easier and quicker. However, in response to numerous requests for easier access we are putting the finishing touches on our web based option.
Buyers and sellers will be able to use the site without having to have a BidBar. However we also have a lot of users who love the BidBar. As more users get larger monitors, faster computers and high speed internet connections, I think it will make the BidBar a more viable option.

So now users will have a choice.

Also our home page is going thru a redesign and will be ready shortly. I have learned alot from these message boards and I will continue to listen. I want to wish all of you good luck no matter where you end up.
Sincerely
Bob DeMaio

hey bob as a user i enjoy the fact that lowestbids is different. but some on here have expressed that they don't like the 'carnival' atmosphere of the site. anything being done to change that?

Interesting hearing about different sites, NOW, has anyone found a site with buyers?

I don't care what it looks like, how hard to maneuver, I'm just interested in buyers, PERIOD!

Where are the buyers?
