Okay, several have noted that what's taken place after the collapse of Yahoo!Auctions is more indicative of the auction site than the collapse itself.

So let's review the last week, from February 10 (one month after the implementation of listing fees) through today, for the ten categories that I follow.

At Yahoo!Auctions there were 37,318 listings on February 10, and 36,597 today, or a decline of 2%; by way of comparison, at Bidville there were 259,531 listings on February 10, and 322,490 today, or an increase of 24%.

Now take a look at Fitzgerald's comments again:

"Sellers are driven by economics and, with the decrease in noise, they're now making more margin, which leads us to believe they will list more inventory," said Brian Fitzgerald, senior producer at Yahoo Auctions.

Ummmmm, yes, Brian, they are listing MORE INVENTORY. It just isn't being listed at Yahoo!AuctionsLITE !

Thanks forshoppin. I picked up the Bidville number for February 10 from your data.

Ok let's look at the aspcect that I won two auctions on Yahoo this week and have yet to find anything worth bidding on, on Bidville.

For a site that is fee free, the sellers seem to be trying make all ther profit in one sale. Otherwords OVERPRICED!

So for me, now that some of the chaff has fallen from the wheat, Yahoo has become a better site.

From what I have been looking at as both a buyer and seller is that a lot of the new auctions showing up in Yahoo's coin's categories are being overpriced as well. All that is going to do is drive more bidders away because they will be left with only a small selection of overpriced items that are not worth wasting the time to check.

A lot of those listings are Yahoo sellers using up their listing credits. Most have indicated that when the credits are gone, so are they.

My impression of the Yahoo!Auctions "featured sellers" listing coins is that they are dealers. Several even state in their terms that the coins are "subject to prior sales" so I guess they're also in their store counters.

twelvepole, LOL You only found 3 items to buy on eBay since 1997 and you flamed one of the sellers. And according to you, "eBay is the place to be". I don't think Bidville sellers will miss you. Sorry, I can't quit laughing.
