interesting articles, Paloma, thanks for posting those.

I think Yahoo will be making money indirectly off the international market now that they are charging fees for auctions. I don't know about you guys, but a very high percentage of my Yahoo customers are international. In the past I have had weeks where 100% of my total items sold were shipped to destinations outside the USA.

I see the whole enlarged banner ad thing as a "desperation" move. What do you guys think? It looks to me like everyone is collectively freaking out and trying to hold on to the old way of doing things (funding everything with banner ads) as long as possible.

It seems almost like a no-win situation. We (consumers) want everything free, and we don't want to be bothered with annoying banner ads either. I can't say that I'll be overjoyed with more stupid ads taking up more space everywhere I surf to- including Yahoo. But I don't want to pay for the privelege of surfing around (mostly in pursuit of things to buy, except where my auction stuff is concerned.) So that's the dilemma these poor sites who rely on advertising dollars are facing, and it's a tough one.

I agree with you on that. I don't want to see any more banners than necessary, especially bigger ones. The ones with the java script, slow downloading the page considerably. I guess we can't have it all, the way we want it, but I know the impact on me personally. If the ad is irritating to me, whether to view, or download time, they will lose a sale to me.

I actually like the idea of interactive banners that don't take you away from the page you are on when you click them.

One of the reasons I don't click banners (even if I am interested) is because I don't want to backtrack..

Or, worse, yet, click on a banner and TRY to go back, but find that you're LOCKED ONTO THE BANNER WEBPAGE. A royal pain.

Personally, I'd rather have the banner ads than the HUGE POP-UP ADS that are appearing everywhere now. I go to a webpage and up pops a stupid ad on top of the webpage. The ones I REALLY HATE are the ones that pop up on the right side of the screen, with the X to get rid of it OFF THE SCREEN. The only way to get rid of them is by holding down control/alternate/delete at the same time and "ending the task" when the open-program box pops up.

Worse are blinking, flashing, jumping ads that freeze my computer.

Sigh.
