Another obvious April Fools Day subject line.
Even if you do get a bid there's about a 50% chance lately that you will not get paid.

With very low sell through, and then only a 50% chance you will be paid, isn’t wasting ones time to post on Yahoo, a masochistic act?

Seems like, with the above in mind, those who are staying with Yahoo, in the face of low sell through, payment problems, etc., just because they “hate” eBay, are actually simply cutting off their noses to spite their faces, right?

Certainly, for those on Yahoo as a protest to eBay – does anyone actually think this effects eBay in the least?

Believe me, I know how you feel, but business is business, and I stopped the eBay wars a few years back when I realized it was an act in futility.

If someone is really into pain try selling at Bidville and most of the other third tier sites. That is almost like Half.com where a seller lists a bunch of items and once a month an item gets sold.

bidsbids nobody more than me would like to see Bidville prosper, but with the current management the place is doing nothing. I still think they will shut it down after the paypal lawsuit is over. The suit was filed last summer and it takes a year to trial.

I know of a seller on Yahoo that has a great sell through. They start all of their items at $1.00. I was curious last night so I took a look at their auctions. They closed 540+ out of their last 1800 auctions at the opening bid of $1.00 and a lot more for less than $2.00.

I really like Yahoo's HOT ITEMS list. Since when is an item that has 2 bids at $1.25 a hot item?

outoftheblue,
The seller you mentioned is a perfect example of what happens on Yahoo that is very different from Ebay. If sellers start at $1.00 on ebay most the time it will have multiple bids. The scenerio you mentioned is why I would be afraid to do that on Yahoo. The sell-thru this seller had is not so great either, considering that they started at $1.00!

On the last Free Listing Day, I posted around 3000 auctions. When all was finished, I had sold around 450.

That's 15%, which for Yahoo is pretty good. I have no problem at all with selling 450 items with no listing fee!

However, out of those 450 items that did sell, a grand total of ONE of them has a second bid. All the rest were single bid winners.

I have started auctions on eBay for a penny, and usually have decent success that way. No way would I EVER start a Yahoo at an opening bid of anything less than I would be willing to accept.

Thank you outoftheblue !!!

That bugs me more than it should I know, but it really does make me cringe! I think it sends out the wrong message to potential new users about Yahoo Auctions!

I have emailed Yahoo and asked them to pleeeeze change at least the title from HOT AUCTIONS to SPOT LIGHTED AUCTIONS or LIVE AUCTIONS anything but hot since as you noticed lots have only 1 bid and a very low price! I have even run across auctions with 40+ bids that never made it to the "hot" box!

They explained to me that they have a program that uses a complex formula and goes through each of the categories looking for auctions that fit their "parameters" and they are pulled out. Well, maybe they need a better programmer!

I do realize there are some categories (especially in Jewelry) that you would be hard pressed to find any auctions with bids or high prices. In that case, I think it would be better to just by-pass that category unless you want to help the category out by bringing up some items on the front category page. I actually think that is sorta nice of Yahoo, but they most definitely need to change at least the title if they don't want to change the whole program! How hard could that be?????

Maybe you ppl aren't selling anything good. I have about a 95% sell thru rate and usually start auctions at $9.99, sometimes $24.99 with a $9.99 S&H fee on top of those prices.

I sell mainly Sega Saturn video games. I never have a problem getting what I want for them.

I just figured my non-paying bidder rate though and after 100 closed auctions with winners, only 81% had paid in full. They had plenty of time to pay in full as well.

Now, I've had about 110 auctions closed & hopefully they all pay too. I still don't understand though some winners. I ask them questions even if they say they won't pay & I've yet to hear a good answer as to why they bid & won't pay. It's usually, "i dunno" or "i guess i don't want it" or "i didn't know it'd be that much"

I cannot use feedback as a guide to those that'll pay as well. I've had people with PERFECT histories not pay for 5 auctions they won with Buy Now about 3 weeks ago. I IM'd them & they were fine with their current $91.50 bill, but were bidding on a couple other auctions and waiting to ship everything together if they won.

They never replied again & I had to cancel their last 2 bids. They never even replied to the 5 neg's I gave 'em. I DO check up on ALL NPB's on my Blacklist about every 2 weeks to make sure they're not lying to others on their feedback.

I have a 50%-75% sell thru selling graded sports cards on yahoo. My deadbeats percentage is the same as eBay. While yahoo does need alot of work I am there to stay. Yahoo users I deal with are wonderful and they have a MUCH more liberal policy than ebay, and the fee structure cant be beat for my sales record.
