According to f*cked Company, YaHoo has eliminated all category managers on the auction site.

They are what Amazon got rid of before the auctions went to h*ll. These people take care of categories. They might determine when a new category needs to be started, under what sub-category to lisk a category, etc..

Reamond,
Thanks! I had no idea! Why does Yahoo do this? They could have been great in my opinion, but took the wrong path.

I have a feeling that YaHoo is going to the storefront venue just as Amazon did and let the auctions die a slow death.

From what I understand yahoo laid off double positions, and the people who run yahoo shopping will now do yahoo auctions as well. It would have been nice if yahoo moved those few employees to customer service, but it seems service is lacking all over these days!

meg of ebay was on tv saying how wonderful ebay is and how fixed price buying has so much promise.
well, yahoo shops have fixed price items.
personally i think yahoo should focus on the stores rather than auctions,it is just not worth the efforts.

I believe that eBay has successfully started integrating the fixed price items with the aution format. Half.com is slowly being blended into eBay and 'Buy It Now' search functions are on the search engine now. I'm sure that is just the start of the integration.
Yahoo, on the other hand, is not near as saavy as eBay when it comes to getting what the customer realy wants. Yahoo seems to have a problem learning what is needed. Damnit, copy friggin' eBay and eat the copycat names that will follow. Everywhere you go on eBay there is a little search box but finding one on Yahoo is like finding a needle in a haystack. Half.com is one of the busiest sites on net and Yahoo Warehouse is almost totally unknown. Yahoo spends millions advertising but the stupid commercials are some weirdo saying "Do you Yahooooo?". Can't they mention the words "auction" or "fixed price items" sometime?
This vent has been paid for by the "Meg Whitman For Empress of the Galaxy Campaign".

The categories are so screwed up on Yahoo, what work did the managers actually do anyway?

Probably any change made toward improving the site short of raising price would help.

bidsbids you are right the yahoo commertials are poorly done. The one time I heard yahoo auctions promoted was during the biggest sale in history promotion. Something at yahoo is going down because they have been putting some effort into the auctions.

jake from what I understand the managers go to shows and promote the auctions. This wont end because the people working at yahoo shopping will continue to do it.

ok4leather they have been making baby steps towards the auction site. They offer sellers low fees, and liberal policy. Had ebay continued shoving checkout at sellers yahoo could have grown quickly.

i agree,i always have problems finding what category to list my items on yahoo auctions,so i am surprised there is such job description as yahoo category manager??
the strength in yahoo shopping is yahoo stores, some of these shops get pretty lucretive orders of celebrity status eg.when president bush is about to visit the us army in korea, the us army in korea came to yahoo to look for us flags, they found them and ordered them in time for the occasion.

I used to make about $750 to $1000 a month on Yahoo until they deleted my category. My sales fell like a rock and never came back. I myself will throw a party if Yahoo ever goes belly up.

I did great on Yahoo back when they had the adult category.........now long gone.

Ironic though since Yahoo has become a pimp heavily pushing their "PERSONALS" property and those stupid "SPY CAMS" add you see everywhere in yahoo. The spy cam had a list of 10 or so laces you could use it and the bedroom was on the list.....

They should just bring back the adult category......
