Hello!

I do quite a little bit of selling on Yahoo, and I was wondering if any of you sellers out there ever run into a problem with your auction titles? For instance.....I have trouble with using these symbols in my title line.....()***///~~~....When I go to the review page, they all have disappeared. Now, I see other sellers using these symbols, but why can't I? Is there some secret to get them to show up? I'd appreciate some help with this....Thank You in advance.

To eliminate a title full of "symbols" (and capital letters, too), Yahoo Auction listing software only allows a few punctuation marks and symbols in your title (and caps as well). When you REVIEW your listing before hitting the "submit" button, you can look at your finished title AS IT WILL APPEAR ON THE AUCTION. If your punctuation marks are no longer there, go back and eliminate some until you find the "magic number" (same with capital letters---eliminate one by one until you like the finished title).

There are earlier threads here with tips for listing on Yahoo that are very helpful, if you'll go back and read them. Good luck!!!!!

Hi granee!...Thank you for taking the time to answer me. I was beginning to think that nobody would...lol...I wonder why Yahoo won't let you use those symbols. I get so frustrated when I have the title looking like I want it to look, and then go to the preview page, and everything is wiped out. I do eventually get a few in there, but it just doesn't look right. I really do like the space Yahoo gives you in your title box. I will look for those seller tips you suggested. I need all the help I can get...LOL..Again Thanks!

This also has something to do with the programming language. In UNIX the * and the / symbols have a definite meaning. If these symbols are read by the compiler, it could take some unwanted action on the symbol, interpreting it as a cmooand. For example misreading it and interpreting it as a command and not as a title text.

drat - I have * at end of my titles -- could this prevent the title from being searched?? Haven't noticed so far but who knows? Anyone Know?

ioughta,

Do a word search for your titles on Yahoo Auction's search page. If your listings come up that have the *** at the end, you have nothing to worry about. If they DON'T, you'll need to cancel and resubmit with edited titles that WILL come up. I use **s in my titles, too, but not at the end, so I can't tell you one way or the other---you'll have to do the search yourself.
