I`ve won a notebook at Yahoo! a few months ago.
I paid the seller by money order. And I never get my money or the notebook.
I noticed that that seller had done the same thing on eBay.
What can I do?
Can I call the ploice or FBI? And, what will the FBI do?
Can I get back my money?
Please help me!
Thank you!`

Sorry to hear about this.
I have never been ripped off, so I can't help you directly. But here is the web-site for the yahoo-seller-zone. http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/thesellerzone
Ask your question over there. I'm sure that they can direct you in the right direction.
Good luck!

well what you could do if you have already wrote the seller several letters with no action is one give them negitive feed back with comment as to what they did to you.

you say you bid on a note book but dont say what type of note book or its value.

there are many places right on the web to contact about fraud . but if this winning bid you made wasnt a high bid if it was $1 to $20 have to ask if the money isworth the cost of this battle.

both partys must be in the same town even in the same court for small claims. this case and travel can be costly.

I dont have the URLs for the places on the web you can take this but someone does or you can do a search on AW for fraud thread this has been brough up mant times in the ebay board here.

If you paid by money order, you can also file a mail fraud complaint with the PO (more effective if it was a postal money order).

Don't know if you can get the money but you can make the thiefs life miserable and stop them or at least slow them down from cheating other on YAHOO and eBay.

I have some of the answers but I would suggest you post the same question on the eBay thread here on AW. The larger number of users on the ebay thread and the depth of specific knowledge they have will get you many more specific details of each option.

The auction sites, local police, FBI fraud site, USPS and other options exist that should ALL be used.

Sometimes contacting the seller after preparing to contact all sources will get a response from the seller. As in "I'm about to contact the following......./.../... with the information about your accepting payment and not delivering the product. If I do not receive a reply from you and refund of my money within 48 hours I will proceed with criminal fraud charges.

It's worth the try.

Did you get their contact info from eBay and try calling them?

If they are in the U.S. you can use a search engine to find the name/address of the Attorney General Office in their state. Most have a fax # you can use to file a complaint.

Here are some helpful websites.

garye,

One very important question here, not asked, (among others). Did you pay for insurance? If not, and you were offered that option. It could be a real problem for you. Especially if the signature on the money order can not be proven to be the sellers. Or, was never cashed or delivered to him/her to begin with. Another possibility.

Lets not all assume the seller has done something illegal. Prior feedback is not necessarily indicative of what happened in this case. You don't know the facts of prior transactions either. Check everything out first before you make accusations, you may not be able to prove. If you are wrong, civil lawsuits for slander are a pain also.

I am not assuming, I do recall when Garye first posted the situation in early July. Since it was an international transaction he had to pay through Bidpay. The seller accepted the payment then changed his email address leaving Garye no way to contact him. Bidpay refused to refund him and he never heard from the seller again. Garye found from eBay the seller had accepted other buyers money and never delivered anyone's product. Garye is non-U.S. and didn't say whether the seller was in the U.S. therefore we did not get into mail fraud charges or postal insurance.

The transaction was in May, I do 'assume' if the seller never got paid he WOULD have let Garye know.

Again, more information would be helpful to those who do read back in time. Thanks

Hi Garye
Did you ever contact any of these fraud websites? Was the seller from the U.S.? Has anything happened since July?

You should also email the bidders from eBay to see if they have made any progress getting their money back or charges filed.

You paid with bidpay and they refused to help you? That's funny because Marek from bidpay was here a few weeks ago making fun of Paypal's protection and stating that Bidpay did a much better job of protecting their buyers. I would suggest that you post in the AW Third Party service forum below with a title that says "Ripped off using bidpay" and see if you can get them to respond. You can sometimes get more help from a company when the problems are made public.
