Vendio™ Launches Dealio™, New Comparison Shopping Toolbar

First Truly Intuitive Shopping Utility for The Web Allows Instant Comparisons of Online Retailers and eBay® Listings

SAN BRUNO, Calif. November 15, 2005 — Dealio, a novel new comparison shopping toolbar that offers consumers a fully automated and intuitive way to find the best deals on the Web, launched today from Vendio™, a leading provider of services that empower merchants to reach consumers and manage online transactions. The Dealio Toolbar operates unobtrusively within a consumer's Web browser and provides coverage for millions of products from tens of thousands of online merchants of all sizes without requiring consumers to visit a website each time they want to conduct a search. The Dealio Toolbar is also the first comparison shopping engine to incorporate auction and fixed price listings from hundreds of thousands of eBay® sellers, further expanding the range of prices for everything from digital cameras to plasma TVs, MP3 players, cell-phones and more. The Dealio Toolbar reflects the latest deals from many of the largest online retailers, including major brands such as Sony Style©, Wal-Mart®, Target©, Amazon.com©, Circuit City©, OfficeMax©, Dell™, Best Buy©, Overstock.com. and RitzCamera©. The Dealio Toolbar is not adware or spyware—it does not record consumers' individual Web movements or adversely affect system or Internet connection performance, and it does not generate pop-ups or any other advertising on a consumer's computer. Dealio is free to consumers and is available for download at www.dealio.com.

Unlike existing comparison shopping websites, the Dealio Toolbar travels with consumers while shopping for products online, providing related comparative shopping data along the way. It therefore provides consumers the best deals with less effort, delivering precise product pricing information in the timeliest and most convenient and intuitive way. The process is entirely democratic, since merchant product inclusion is free and product search results are listed by lowest total price first, including tax and shipping. Most other comparison shopping solutions provide only paid product listings and direct consumers to the merchants who are paying the most, not necessarily those providing the best value to the consumer. This practice often confuses consumers and lower satisfaction levels among both consumers and merchants.

"The Dealio Toolbar is a great example of 'compareware'—a smart, user-friendly utility that accompanies consumers while they shop online and presents them with lower cost alternatives in a convenient and unobtrusive manner," said Rodrigo Sales, founder and CEO and of Vendio. "Existing comparison shopping engines require consumers to travel to their websites and also tend to confuse them by presenting search results based on how much a merchant is paying to be listed, rather than highlighting the best deal available. Dealio is a time- and money-saving toolbar that meets consumers' shopping search needs far more effectively."

"Since I've downloaded Dealio it's made shopping online so much easier," said Diana Rose of Novato, California. "Every time I shop it helps me save money and get the best deal on the things I'm looking for. This is going to make shopping for my holiday gifts a snap!"

The Dealio Toolbar is free to consumers and is quick and easy to install and use. After downloading and installing the Dealio Toolbar, the user sees the Dealio logo added to the navigation bar near the top of the their browser. Dealio requires no additional space on the screen during normal browsing, unlike other toolbars. Once a user locates a specific item while shopping online, however, the Dealio Toolbar automatically alerts the consumer to the lowest prices on the Web for that item. Dealio brings prices to the consumer, thereby eliminating the need to spend the time required to visit a comparison shopping site and conduct a product search. Clicking on the "alert" in the navigation bar opens a sidebar within the browser window, which provides the consumer with a list of alternative sites where they can purchase the same product and the related prices, complete with tax and shipping to their ZIP code.

Among its many novel capabilities, the Dealio Toolbar displays prices from eBay in addition to those from online retailers. eBay listings appear in separate tabs, organized by fixed price versus auctions so that users can easily compare prices among listings of the same type. Further, Vendio has leveraged more than seven years experience developing on the eBay platform to create a proprietary search method that provides greater relevance and filtering of eBay items for the Dealio Toolbar. This unique process includes both an automated algorithm and human review to ensure Dealio Toolbar users receive a complete set of relevant eBay search results while filtering out items that would otherwise distract users from their intended purchases.

Other key features of the Dealio Toolbar include:
  • The Dealio Toolbar is hidden during normal browsing so it does not take up space in the user's browser; it only appears when needed
  • Users can search by keyword by entering a specific product make and model, or a general category term like "plasma TV" or "digital camera"
  • Clicking on a given listing from the Dealio Toolbar's search results takes the consumer to the specific product page of the merchant in question, where buyers can not only purchase the product, but view product details, warranty information, and merchant information
  • By entering their ZIP code, which is stored on their computer, a consumer can see the total "true" price of any product, including tax and shipping
  • The Dealio Toolbar automatically saves a history of the consumer's last 50 items viewed, for easy, one-click retrieval of common searches
