This kind of misleading auction, of selling the bloody BOX, looks like it is the new scam. How on Earth is Ebay and Yahoo (where it appears even more prevalent) going to deal with it?
Make a special section for "Empty Boxes and assorted accessories"?

Contrary to popular opinion here, there are times when an empty box is highly desirable. In fact I've sold a couple.
I didn't think the auction under discussion was misleading--very strightforward auction for a box and receipt. However, I think the intention was there to mislead.
When I have sold empty boxes, they are for very collectible vintage items that increase in value if they have the original box. This auction was for a contemporary item and certainly the seller needed to take care that bidders understood what they were bidding on. We can only assume that he did not do that.

jade----of course an empty box is desirable--any collector is aware of that---but not in this case. A PS2 , box and all, is selling for about $400.00---so I don't think the empty box should fetch the same amount

Zazzie, did you say that the seller said he is going to be here? If so, did he say when? I too have my popcorn waiting. What a show!! I really would love to hear how he is going to defend this.

Zaz--I agree but it seemed that most folks posting here could not imagine an empty box EVER being sold.
I looked at the auction in question and couldn't see anything terribly misleading in what it said. However, I did have the feeling that the INTENT to mislead was there.
An honest seller would have asked the bidder to retract the bids or would have cancelled them when the price got out of hand.

I have no idea if they will post here or not--though I'm sure they are reading because this is where they got my email. I didn't write to them first---though I did respond to the email.

I can easily see how people would think they are buying more than a bloody box!
Playstation 2 Original Box And Receipt
Playstation 2 controllers 3 games Brand New! with a buy price of $600 and starting at $450
or another with a buy price of $575 and starting at $405
But what is Ebay and Yahoo going to do about it?
edited to remove one legit auction

Yes, the word must really be out about this auction. The counter is practically spinning, 54,600 and some hits.

I am uphauled by that auction! It's sad that people intentionally take advantage of innocent buyers. If I was that buyer I would track that buyer down and kick his a**.

I just hope some charges somewhere will be filed against this guy AND I hope the buyer will get their money refunded, although I have a feeling the refund thing is going to be a toughie.
I would be sick if this happened to me. I hope someone will contact the bidders in the other "box" auctions and auction interference be damed!
Edited to say,
TJoyal I agree, it would be a much deserved ass kicking!!

What really shows me is the fact that they sold the receipt also. Most people buying ps2's know that every reciept has the serial number for that playstation on the recipt. So the only person who could use it is the one who got the playstation from that box.

At the risk of getting in a bunch of trouble, I already did email the current bidder on the other auction. This makes me sick....I also forwarded the auction to safe harbor. Now watch me get thrown off Ebay, but this just has to stop. I did not email the other bidders though.

This whole thing has made me so angry. A similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago, and because of the wording or "Misrepresentation by Omission" I lost over $80.00 and NOTHING could be done.
I did take it upon myself to contact each and every bidder on the "new" box auction and clue them in to what was happening. I gave them links to two of the Auction Watch threads and, a link to the previous identical auction (I do believe it is the same person due to wording and the fact that it started yesterday on an account that had been inactive since September I think) and a link the the Bid Retraction page at Ebay.
All the bidders had very low feedback or no feedback and most likely had no idea how to do the research that we have learned to do.
One of them contacted me less than 5 min. asking if I really thought that someone would sell and empty box.

Regarding the comments of chris97. Auction titles are necessarily brief and often eliminate punctuation in the interest of more discriptive search words. I this seller truly sent an empty box, he/she should be prosecuted for mail fraud. It would be in eBay's best interests to assist were possible.

It's more than just the title. If you read the descriptions on the two active auctions that I found, they are very similar, 1 line descriptions. They are also very carefully worded.
The two I found are for Playstation 2's

That is so sad. I hope she gets her money back. I'm saying she because I read the feedback where the idiot says "she's a liar". This guy is a total loser.
